Early Life
Mexia did not earn a degree. She married Herman E. Laue in 1897. He died in 1904, then she married Augustin A. Reygados, but they were later divorced. She never had children. Afterwards, she moved to San Fransisco, where she underwent medical treatment, officialy divorced husband, and became involved in local social work. She soon developed interest in natural sciences, particularly botany. During the next sixteen years Ynes continued her studies, frequently taking leaves of absence to pursue her botanical interests.
